About Chiropractic

What is Chiropractic?

The word Chiropractic comes from the Greek words cheir (meaning ‘hand’) and praktos (meaning ‘done’) thus Chiropractic is a form of modern healthcare that is ‘done by hand’.

Chiropractors focus on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the effects these problems have on the nervous system and your general health. Chiropractic is a drug free, non-invasive natural form of health care used by hundreds of thousands of Australians. In Australia, Chiropractors undergo at least 5 years university training and are nationally registered health professionals.

What is a Sports Chiropractor?

Chiropractors with a special interest and experience in sports, keep many active Australians at their peak by treating neuro-muscular dysfunction and assisting body recovery. Using a combination of specific Chiropractic adjustments, exercise prescription and soft tissue therapies, it is the aim of the Sports Chiropractor to restore and enhance the body’s neuro-musculoskeletal system for peak performance on both a preventative and rehabilitative basis.

The team at North Fremantle Chiropractic are known for their abilities in the diagnosis and treatment of sports related injuries. In addition, through their extensive education they have an in-depth understanding of injury minimization, rehabilitation measures, and a sound knowledge e of the return-to-play criteria.

As Sports Chiropractors we understand the importance of what is called the “kinetic chain”. The Kinetic chain refers to all the muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments etc involved with performing a particular movement or action. For example, did you know that a lower back or hip problem can contribute to a shoulder injury? This is a common presentation seen in people participating in overhead or throwing sports; if you have a movement limitation in your low back or even leg, it will interfere with your body’s ability to transfer the energy from the legs to the arm, which will place more strain on your shoulder.

Chiropractic sports practitioners are ideally suited to help athletes of all levels handle these challenges and make sure they reach their full potential in today’s competitive environment.
